Harmonium, tabla, or another instrument of your choice — paired with singing Shabads and learning the basics of raag. Small live Zoom classes, taught by certified teachers.
Kirtan classes combine learning an instrument — most commonly harmonium or tabla — with singing Shabads correctly, and understanding the basics of raag as you go. It's not just "play along": students learn to read and apply the structure behind what they're singing, level by level.
You'll need your own instrument. Harmonium, tabla, or another instrument you'd like to learn — bring whatever you already have, or whatever you're planning to pick up.
Complete beginners who've never touched an instrument. Students who already play a little and want real structure instead of picking things up informally. Adults returning to an instrument they learned as a child. Because Kirtan uses Punjabi terms and Gurmukhi text, complete beginners in spoken Punjabi are usually encouraged to take Punjabi Language alongside it.
Kirtan follows the same five-level path as every subject at Sikhi Noor Academy — Noor Foundation through Noor Mastery — so progress is always visible, and a Sikhi Noor Certificate marks the end of each level. Complete all five and you earn a Sikhi Noor Diploma in Kirtan.
